Just yesterday I experienced the very poor customer service at a Wild Birds Unlimited Store near me in Novi, Michigan that my free download below would have prevented had the store owners and staff read it and implement the very simple steps. Nobody answered their phone when I called twice, so I drove the 30 minute drive to their store. When I arrived, the lone employee standing behind the counter did not greet me, engage me or ask me what I was looking for. She did not thank me for coming in when I left the store (I left without buying anything-I went online and bought a bird feeder on Amazon.com-it was quicker and easier than being ignored.). She never said a word to me the entire time I was in the store.
I will never go back to that store so they lost a lifetime of sales and possible referrals. Learn how to avoid this needless scenario below.
Greeting customers properly with a friendly hello and a warm smile, engaging customers, answering the phone properly, and saying please and thank you. These are foundations for success that create that all important powerful first impression. Ignore them at your own peril.
