Break The Chain: New campaign to end circus animal suffering

break-the-chainAs 1% of the proceeds from my book sales are donated to animal welfare, I want to let you know about this: Bob Barker, host of the popular TV game show, “The Price is Right”, and CSI star Jorja Fox, testified on Capitol Hill last week to put an end to what can only be described as animal torture with the introduction of a new historic bill, HR 3359, the Traveling Exotic Animal Protection Act. This act was introduced by Congressman Jim Moran (D-VA) to protect wild animals in traveling circuses.

This act would end the use of wild and or exotic animals in traveling circuses or any other traveling show.

Sarah, a sick, 54-year old Ringling Bros. elephant fell and collapsed recently from a ramp while being loaded into a train in Anaheim, California. Sarah is just one of hundreds of animals, stressed and suffering in US circuses.

Americans are becoming increasingly aware that circus animals suffer from severe confinement, unavoidable because of the constraints of a difficult life of constant travel on the road. Tigers, bears, elephants and other wild animals spend hours on end either chained, in small cages or crowded onto trailers and train cars.

Entertaining contemporary circuses like Cirque du Soleil prove that the show will go on profitably without abused animals.

A huge thank you to Congressman Jim Moran, Congressman Bill Young, Bob Barker, Jorja Fox, Animal Defenders International, and the Performing Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) for their hard work and support of this historic bill.
